CLOUD FOREST HIKE
Just
90 minutes from La Fortuna, across the San Carlos plains, lies the Juan Castro
Blanco National Park, known as the “National Water Park” This is not a man-made
wonder full of plastic and metal structures that you might think of as a
waterpark. Instead, it is a true piece of paradise. At a height of 2,200 meters
(6,560 ft) above sea level, surrounded by impressive cloud forests and with an average temperature range from 16 - 22° C (60-72° F), the National Park serves as a reprieve from
the active streets and higher temperatures of La Fortuna. This park ranks as the 10th largest body of fresh water in the world!
The
natural scenic beauty, unmatched peace, and the opportunity to see rare
wildlife species make this tour truly spectacular. Our certified naturalist
guides will point out some of the unique characteristics of the cloud forest,
the importance of this ecosystem on the northern region of Costa Rica, and its
impact on the world. In addition, they will use their specialized gear to help
spot wildlife treasures. During March and April, you may even be lucky enough
to spot an elusive Quetzal with its majestic jewel-colored plumage.
After
the 90-minute drive through the scenic plantations of the plains, we will
arrive to begin our hike. The 3 km (2 mi) trail will take about 2 hours as we
slowly discover and take in all these wonders. Then we will share a delicious
lunch right in the middle of the cloud forest, before returning you to the
hotel.
